โจ FIP-101: Lightweight indexer is now open source.
Github repo links in comments ๐
Data indexing is the hidden infrastructure cost for the Bitcoin ecosystem.
The problem today:
โ Teams build indexing privately and duplicate the same work.
โ Indexers need to be in sync, errors lead to data inconsistency across indexers and affect users.
โ Teams and individual users who may not have the resources to spin up indexers end up relying on a handful of centralized operators.
๐น How Fractal's lightweight indexer is designed around these issues:
โ Compression & pruning โ only stores what DApps actually need
โ Tiered design โ operators choose their indexing scope based on their own resources, no one is forced to carry the full data load
โ Standardized, so the whole ecosystem works from the same data layer
โ Historical sync takes only days, not months like on Bitcoin
The indexer is now open-source, so anyone can inspect the code, deploy their own lightweight indexer easily and earn network incentives. Users can also index their own data now, instead of relying on providers, and DApps can run on Fractal at low cost and high speed โ with the peace of mind that the data infrastructure supporting them is open and decentralized.
This is what makes Fractal the perfect experimental playground for Bitcoin. ๐
โณ Public Testing starts May 14, open to all users and indexing operators.
Run an indexer or stake FB to share FB block rewards.
