Iran bought U.S. missile-testing equipment and drone cameras. The goods moved through Chinese shell companies. The people lived in Vancouver and Edmonton. The bills were paid in oil and yuan. This is not an immigration story. It is a weapons-procurement pipeline. Iranian buyers sit at one end. Chinese front companies sit at the other. Canada is the middle. Iranian-origin residents become the Western face: bank accounts, trade firms, even government contracts. Goods travel as fake imports. Money clears in oil and RMB, then converts through exchange houses in the Middle East, Canada, or Hong Kong. One Vancouver man spent five years buying restricted U.S. gear for Iran’s defense ministry. He was arrested at the Blaine border in 2018 and sentenced to 42 months in Seattle. Another case is worse. The son of a former Iranian vice president, living in Edmonton as Sal Ghafouri, was flagged by CSIS as part of an IRGC procurement network. His companies still won about $2 million in contracts from the RCMP and National Defence. Border officials marked him in 2017. The contracts kept coming because intelligence could not be used in court and departments did not talk. China pays Iran in yuan. That money returns to the Gulf and is converted into usable currency.
