Rural Utah should be furious. Decades of shutting down mills for “environmental purposes” has led to massive deadly fires. This is no accident! 1991- Escalante Mill, 1992- Kaibib Mill, 1995- Fredonia Mill 1998- Panguitch Mill Total 10 mills were closed down in the 90’s to “Save The Planet.” Thousands of job lost and lives ruined, now the fires. This is the part people need to understand: those mills were not just businesses. They were part of the forest-management system. They took timber out. They supported loggers, truckers, equipment operators, and working families who knew how to get work done in the woods. When lawsuits, appeals, species fights, and endless delays choked off the timber supply, the mills died. When the mills died, the logging infrastructure died with them. And when that infrastructure disappeared, we lost the very people and equipment needed to thin forests, remove fuel, and keep these lands healthier. And now we are paying for it in three dead firefighters, smoke, fire, evacuations, dead wildlife, damaged watersheds, and forests loaded with fuel. The sawmills helped manage the forests. They were driven out. Now the forests are burning. The very thing they thought they were protecting is gone. Don’t you see the same pattern in California? Small protections driving big disasters?
