Waiting outside a pediatric clinic, a little girl beside me was crying because she'd dropped her sticker into a puddle. Her dad tried everything. "We can get another one." "No. That one knows me." Fair enough. The sticker was a tiny holographic dinosaur, now face-down in approximately half an inch of rainwater. A delivery cyclist nearby watched this crisis unfold, parked his bike, and crouched beside the puddle. He fished out the sticker using an old loyalty card, dried it carefully on his sleeve, then handed it back. The dinosaur had survived. The girl stopped crying instantly. Her dad said, "What do we say?" She looked at the cyclist. "You're a doctor." He laughed. "Definitely not." She studied his fluorescent jacket and helmet for a moment. "Ambulance?" "Nope." She thought even harder. "Superhero?" The cyclist smiled and said, "I deliver sandwiches." She nodded, apparently satisfied.
