I usually use agents with my local device, but I've found that having one on a VPS can be really useful, especially for automation and cron jobs. You can use wakeAgent or noAgent pre-run scripts to poll a state regularly and then perform a task as needed, without worrying about keeping your device (or gateway) online or sharing resources with your day-to-day work. Everything managed through Nous Portal with easy access to the web dashboard is pretty nice too, take a look!
