🇨🇺 Cuba President Diaz-Canel, on Fidel Castro's 100th birthday: "To be a Fidelista is not to profess blind faith; it is an honorable attitude toward life. To be a Fidelista means defining ourselves as permanent anti-imperialist fighters, against every injustice in the world. And celebrating the eternity of the Commander in Chief means, above all, defeating once again those who tried to assassinate him more than 600 times and only succeeded in magnifying his stature. The soldier of ideas is back in a way that must terrify his adversaries. The resurgence of fascism across the world is imposing on the Global South an ideological war that, in its cultural and media dimensions, insists on shielding capitalism as our hegemonic destiny, subordinate to imperialist logic, seeking to erase historical memory, to recolonize us culturally and break our identities. At the same time, and toward those same ends, the media war unfolds, with its campaigns of disinformation and poison, directed against the most elementary human values as if they were obsolete, to justify wars and acts of aggression as incompatible with international law as the genocide in Gaza, the aggression against Iran, or the energy blockade on Cuba. Fidel lives in every Cuban medical professional who saves a life, most of the time without even having the indispensable medicine. In the educators who abandon the classroom neither in the city nor in the mountains. When future historians look back through time searching for Fidel Castro Ruz, the Commander in Chief, they will no longer see just one man: they will see his people, and the millions who, inspired by his exemplary life, earned their place in history by standing up, unbowed, to the most powerful and criminal empire, and prevailing.
