Today, the EU has a new Commission Vice-President designate, @Teresaribera , charged with implementing the #EUGreenDeal# We look forward to the preparation of the decarbonisation architecture for 2040 - a must-have for ensuring that the EU stays on track towards climate-neutrality by 2050 at the latest, emerges from fossil fuel dependency, and combats energy poverty. @vonderleyen also announced the Commissioner-designate for #energy# and #Housing#, @DanJoergensen We are delighted that the @EU_Commission took note of our open letter (https://t.co/p8vrtlgOu1) in July and made #heatingandcooling# a focus of the new mandate. We hope @DanJoergensen will accelerate the #EnergyTransition# in line with the pace needed to meet #EUClimateGoals#. He is also housing commissioner, and must ensure the provision of decarbonised and affordable housing as central to a #JustTransition#. The design of the new EU financial framework, including the Social Climate Fund and Just Transition fund, will be a crucial factor, along with the Clean Industrial Deal and new state aid guidelines to accelerate the rollout of #renewables#, #cleantech# and skills as announced by @vonderleyen The just-announced Citizens Energy Package must ensure that people are truly empowered to form #energycooperatives# for #heatingandcooling# along with other measures that mean people can benefit from the #energytransition#. Read the open letter we sent to President von der Leyen in July: https://t.co/p8vrtlgOu1 Decarbonised and renewable #heatingandcooling# (H&C) will be central to achieving the #energytransition# as H&C is almost half the energy we use, but the share of clean renewable energy keeping our homes comfortable is currently only 6%. What’s more, at the current rate of H&C decarbonisation it would take until 2050 to reach the legally binding 2030 target!! Dedicated action on H&C has never been more needed. It’s time to #HeatRight#
