Elon Musk: A curious AI will want to preserve human civilization. “The best thing I can come up with for AI safety is to make it a maximum truth-seeking AI, maximally curious, and have its optimization function be to understand the nature of the universe. If that is its optimization function, I think it will actually want to preserve and extend human civilization, because we're much more interesting than an asteroid with nothing on it. My biological neural net suggests that a maximally curious and truth-seeking AI is the safest AI. We have to be careful with the alignment stuff. We definitely don't want to teach an AI to lie because that is a path to a dystopian future.” Interview with Linda Yaccarino, April 18, 2023

Elon Musk: Imagine it was your son or your father dying in Ukraine's trenches. “I think we should have empathy for the people dying at the front lines. That's the most important thing. How many more years is this supposed to go on? Imagine if that was your son, your father. What exactly are they dying for? That line of engagement has barely moved for two years. There's a whole bunch of people dead in trenches. For what? I'll tell you for what: For the biggest graft machine that I've ever seen in my life. It's unreal. The amount of money that is being taken in graft and bribery is disgusting. What's actually happening is that those poor guys are getting sent into a meat grinder for money. People need to stop dying. The graft machine's got to stop. A lot of people out there don't realize it, but the President has a lot of empathy. He really cares. He's a good man.” CPAC, February 20, 2025

Elon Musk: Starship is gigantic compared to anything that's ever been done before. “Starship is gigantic compared to anything that's ever been done before. This is not like a tiny little thing lands on the moon. This is a giant-ass spaceship lands on the moon. It's capable of putting 100 tons of payload on the moon, so a lot. We can go way beyond what was done with the Apollo program, where they just had a small lander, and they were on the surface of the moon for some number of hours, and then they got back in and took off. The Apollo program was not capable of building a moon base. But the Starship system is capable of building a moon base. It's designed to be capable of building a city on the moon or Mars. That's what the system is designed to be able to do.” Full Send Podcast, August 5, 2022

Elon Musk: Stocks go up and down, but what really matters is delivering great products. “The stocks go up and down, but what really matters is: are we making and delivering great products? The Tesla products are outstanding. Last year, the Tesla Model Y was the best-selling car of any kind in the world. About 1.2 million units. It was the best-selling car, despite being, I think, around 50% more expensive than the next best-selling vehicle. I think that's a testament to the incredible work of the Tesla team.” Interview with Don Lemon, March 18, 2024

Elon Musk: The public wants Starfleet Academy. “I think some very exciting things are possible. I'm pretty confident the public wants Starfleet Academy. How do we make Star Trek real? That'd be pretty amazing. I'd love that. I think the fastest we can make Starfleet real, the better.” AFA Air Warfare Symposium, February 28, 2020

Elon Musk: Future Martians could rescue Earth in case of an emergency. “My guess is that there will be cases where the future Martians actually come and help and rescue Earth when there is an emergency. Just as America has helped to rescue the rest of the world in World War I and II and the Cold War. Where would the world be if not for America helping out in those three circumstances? So, I think there's a good chance Mars helps save Earth at some point in the future, maybe many times.” Conversation with Alice Weidel, January 9, 2025

Elon Musk: The right metric for intelligence is the ability to predict the future. “The right metric for intelligence is probably the ability to predict the future. You're as intelligent as you can predict the future well. Because if somebody claims this person or this AI is very intelligent, how good are its predictions? If its predictions are not very good, it's not that smart. To predict the future, you have to think critically about the past and constantly try to be less wrong.” Lancaster, Pennsylvania, October 26, 2024

Elon Musk: If the bureaucracy is preventing the president from implementing what the people want, then we live in a bureaucracy, not a democracy. “The President will make these executive orders, which are very sensible and good for the country, but then they don't get implemented. For example, the President issued an executive order saying we need to stop taking taxpayer money and paying for luxury hotels for illegal immigrants, which makes no sense. Obviously, people do not want their tax dollars going to fund high-end hotels for illegals. And yet, they were still doing that, even as late as last week. And so, we went in there and said this is in violation of the presidential executive order and that it needs to stop. One of the biggest functions of the DOGE team is just making sure that the presidential executive orders are actually carried out. The president is the elected representative of the people, so he's representing the will of the people. If the bureaucracy is fighting the will of the people and preventing the president from implementing what the people want, then what we live in is a bureaucracy and not a democracy.” Fox News, February 18, 2025

Elon Musk: The government is a big dumb machine. “It's mostly not corruption, it's mostly just waste and incompetence. It's just a big dumb machine, a whole series of big dumb machines. Some of the software was written 50 years ago. A bunch of the things that DOGE is fixing were identified by the Government Accountability Office many years ago. Like the fact that there's 20 million [dead] people who are marked as alive in the Social Security database. They're using the fact that someone is marked as alive in that database in order to extract fraud from other databases. It's like in pool, trying to get the ball in the hole, you bank shot it off a bunch of things.” The Joe Rogan Experience, February 28, 2025
