Scientists at the University of New Mexico have advanced a tau-targeting Alzheimer’s vaccine into human trials. It triggered strong immune reactions and cleared pathological tau protein in both mice and rhesus macaques — slowing neurodegeneration and improving cognition. A Phase 1 clinical trial is slated for early 2026 to assess safety and immune response in humans. This could mark the first step toward a true disease-modifying treatment. Could this be the breakthrough Alzheimer’s patients have been waiting for? Scientists at the University of Bristol and the UK Atomic Energy Authority have created a diamond battery powered by carbon 14, taken from nuclear reactor graphite waste. The battery produces a steady stream of energy for up to 5,700 years and could be used in medical implants, space exploration, and remote sensors. This innovation offers long lasting power and a new way to repurpose radioactive waste. Researchers at the City University of Hong Kong have developed a magnetic spray called "M-spray" that transforms ordinary objects into controllable devices. By applying this spray, objects can interact with magnetic fields, enabling movements like crawling, walking, or rolling. The coating is thin, flexible, and removable, making it suitable for various applications, including biomedical uses like targeted drug delivery. NEW: Brown University 'DOGE' student shares his side of the story with Pirate Wires At Brown University, there's roughly one non-faculty administrator for every two undergrads. Tuition, living expenses, and fees now amount to $93,064 a year. The school runs a $46 million annual budget deficit, and professors constantly complain they’re underpaid. Trying to make sense of this situation, Brown sophomore @alexkshieh emailed all 3,800+ administrators, asking a simple question: "What do you do all day?" Among the few responses he did get, one person replied "fuck you," and another told him to “stick an entire cactus up [his] ass.” Now, Shieh says Brown is investigating him for “emotional/psychological harm,” among other things. Today on PW, Alex tells his side of the story — and describes the aftermath. Link is threaded 👇
