Big Bush-league establishment folks rebranding themselves and their ideas as 'post-liberal:' "But whAt dId tHe Tea pARty AccomPlish? We gained 63 House seats, snatched Obama's majority, and created the Freedom Caucus. We politically eliminated numerous swamp creatures and replaced them with the most conservative candidates that could win. Blocked Merrick Garland. We forced budget limits and sequestration (i.e. Budget Control Act), pressured leadership to end earmarks in 2011, and fundamentally altered how bills are negotiated. We stopped the "move along to get along" style of GOP governance by playing hardball during debt-ceiling standoffs and refused to cave (2013 shutdown). We fueled the red map initiative in 2010 through aggressive redistricting fights that swept state legislatures that allowed GOP to redraw maps for the next decade. We rejected federal Medicaid expansion, won restrictions on public sector unions in Wisconsin (Act 10), stopped the federal govt from making states run ACA exchanges; blocked multiple AWB attempts and nationalized attempts at red flag, et al., expanded concealed carry across the nation, won tax cuts in multiple states, destroyed the legacy media, and the illusion of the Obama progressive mandate. Our numbers were too few. Constitutional conservatism has never been fully implemented because: a) Most lack the spine to look the electorate in the face and tell them entitlements are ending. They lack the courage to introduce austerity for the government to induce prosperity amongst the people. b) RINOs are addicted to power spending and power plus big spending means big government. Crony capitalism isn't a measure of actual capitalism just as a half-attempt to reducing government's reach to the enumerated powers isn't measure of full power. I can tell you, however, what big government Republicanism, "compassionate conservatism" (the new slogan, for the "common good" is just a restructure of that) aka "post-liberalism" has "accomplished:" - Debt explosion - Record high deficit from unbridled spending - Entitlement expansion (2003 Medicare Part D) - TARP - 2020 CARES Act - Negotiating the decline with Obamacare and failing to repeal - Bailouts and subsidies - Patriot Act - Federalization of education through No Child Left Behind - The subprime mortgage crisis and the "ownership society" I could go on but am writing this on a commercial break.
