I’ve made a lot of new friends recently, both on X and in person. A few days ago, Ms Kwek Poh Heok, CEO of Business China, and her team visited Waterdrop’s Beijing headquarters. A few observations I wanted to share: - Being AI-native is not about bolting another tool onto an old workflow. Underwriting, customer service and healthcare delivery all need to be rethought from the ground up. In the end, it comes back to the user: can we reduce the time and effort families spend navigating insurance and healthcare, while giving them better protection? - Globalization is a necessary part of a company’s growth. Spending too long competing for existing demand at home only drains a team’s energy. Once a team has built up real operating muscle, it’s time to test those capabilities in larger markets. Waterdrop now has dual headquarters in Beijing and the Greater Bay Area, with Hong Kong serving as a hub connecting us to global markets, while we continue to explore Southeast Asia. Chinese and Singaporean companies bring highly complementary strengths in technology, innovation and industry collaboration. There is a lot we can do together.
