US DEBT INTEREST BILL IS BECOMING A MAJOR FISCAL PROBLEM
US debt held by the public is projected to rise from 101% of GDP in 2026 to 120% by 2036.
More federal revenue increasingly goes toward servicing existing debt rather than funding defense, infrastructure, healthcare or other priorities. Higher-for-longer interest rates would make the problem significantly worse.
