The effective fed funds rate now is 3.63%, just above the 3.4% official inflation rate, but well below the actual rate. Even if the Fed hikes rates 75 basis points by year-end, the effective rate would rise to 4.38%. But if inflation rises faster, that’s effectively a rate cut.
