Christian Svensson, VP and Head of 2P/3P Content Ventures & Strategic Initiatives at Sony Interactive Entertainment, recently praised the fast progress being made by game developers in China and South Korea. “The speed at which teams in China and South Korea are moving is amazing. Their scale and ability to respond quickly are things we’re not always seeing from some Western or Japanese teams. It’s really impressive. The games coming from there also feel very different from what we’ve seen before.” His comments reflect a growing trend in the gaming industry: Chinese and Korean studios are releasing games faster, building bigger projects, and focusing heavily on what players want. Meanwhile, many Western studios are seen as moving more slowly. Some analysts and developers say this is because Asian studios often have larger teams, lower development costs, and a stronger focus on market demand. Critics also argue that many Western studios are spending more attention on DEI policies and political messaging, which can affect creative decisions and slow development.
