Islam is still extremely popular inside US prisons and is often the first step toward prisoners’ radicalization bc it represents a dis-identification with Americanness. This was true for Malcolm X and it’s still true today.

A lot of the Islam 'discourse' seems to miss that whatever its nuances, Islam has proven capable of producing durable collective agency including in the direction of resistance beyond the transmission belt of old industrial capitalism whereas we've found no-way of doing so
