Iceland rejects an invitation to get on the RMS Titanic…
🇮🇸 Iceland Rejects Resuming EU negotiations 🇪🇺
Icelanders have narrowly voted against restarting accession talks with the European Union:
❌ 52.5% voted against resuming negotiations
✅ 47.5% voted in favour
📊 A narrow 5 point majority for the “No” side.
🇪🇺 What does this mean?
Iceland’s EU accession talks, suspended since 2013, will remain frozen. Reykjavík voted clearly in favour of restarting negotiations, while rural constituencies strongly backed the “No” side.
Iceland will remain closely integrated with the EU through the European Economic Area and Schengen.
