With genuine due respect to Heidy, the trend around security folks vilifying METR is not a step towards making the world a better place. They are among the only non profit centers of AI safety excellence in the US and the world. Without knowing the details, many at METR gave up generational wealth to work there. Security people should go work there. They're hiring. They have put out a number of rigorous papers and take technical rigor seriously and would be open to your security domain expertise which would add value. We don't need any more self inflicted wounds.

How is Anthropic pushing regulatory capture? Here they promote METR, a "voluntary" third-party auditor that is not only ideologically and financially tied, but carries out their audits through unscientific means such as "CoT" and cherry-picks evidence to reinforce an idea of AGI.
