“Marvin the Monster” was a 15 foot long unidentified marine creature recorded under an oil rig in 1962.
The creature was captured on a live video feed by Mobot, a remote-controlled underwater robot owned by the Shell Oil Company, while it was scanning the seafloor for oil deposits roughly 900 to 1,000 feet deep. Operators watching the footage from the drilling ship Eureka estimated that the animal was 15 feet (4 meters) long but only about 6 inches (15 cm) in diameter. They noted that it swam with a very distinctive corkscrew or spiral motion.
