The U.S. House passed the Ratepayer Protection Act in a 417-3 vote to address costs created by data centers and other large computational loads. The bill would require states to consider standards intended to prevent existing electricity customers from paying for incremental generation, transmission and distribution upgrades. Loads larger than 100 MW could face financial assurance requirements and guarantees covering costs if projects exit early. Analysts said the measure reinforces a transition already underway through state large-load tariffs and is unlikely to clear the Senate before the midterm elections ( but then what is)? The three no votes were progressive Democrats Summer Lee, Delia Ramirez, and Rashida Tlaib. Every Republican present voted yes
