I honestly think it is a byproduct of the ease with which they can communicate with passengers now. When flights were cancelled or delayed 10 years ago, or gates changed, there was no easy mechanism to blast the info out to he passengers by email or text message. The difficulty in managing the problems on the telephone with an army of live-body customer service personnel meant every possible remedy short of flight disruption was attempted. Now they blast out a text message and their job is done. After that it's on the passengers to adjust. The reduction in friction caused by flight disruptions makes them easier -- for airline personnel -- to endure.

I’ve flown American for 21 years. At least 4 flights a month religiously. I really don’t know what’s happening this year but my team and I are about to give up our status to switch to delta. I shit you not… EVERY FLIGHT THIS YEAR is late, delayed, needs maintenance at the last minute or is straight up canceled. Get your shit together or lose us and many more professional travelers @AmericanAir
