OpenAI commits $1 billion to help protect critical infrastructure from AI-powered cyberattacks. The new “Daybreak for Frontline Defenders” initiative will provide subsidized access to OpenAI’s advanced cyber models, along with training, technical support and partnerships. The program is aimed at organizations including water systems, electricity providers, local governments, regional banks and other essential services that often lack the resources to defend against increasingly capable AI-driven attacks. OpenAI is also launching “Daybreak for America,” including a pilot to train state and local government cyber defenders, and says it is working with more than 35 technology and cybersecurity providers to integrate its models into existing security tools and workflows.
