There's currently a cambrian explosion of innovative onchain mechanisms We're only just scratching the surface of how distributed systems can be used to leverage the "Wisdom of Crowds" @umia_finance launched its UMIA token recently & will be incubating a number of high quality projects that'll be coming through its pipeline But something I'm paying closer attention to the ongoing decision making & how these onchain mechanisms play into that process Crypto made capital formation permissionless but left "control" of the capital largely unchanged Teams sell tokens, take custody of the treasury, keep the IP inside a separate company & can treat token governance as advisory, with no consequences for ignoring outcomes Tokenholders finance the business while remaining structurally downstream of it Umia puts major project decisions through "conditional markets"; large treasury spend, acquisition, new issuance or strategic pivot creates two or more markets: i) one (or more) where the proposal passes, and; ii) a No-Op market where nothing changes Traders price the project’s token under both futures & the proposal only executes if its TWAP beats the status quo by a defined threshold This bit is super interesting to me because of the “Wisdom of Crowds” I mentioned above; it has somewhat been proven out in elections using prediction markets which have turned out to be more accurate than your average poll Imagine a public company creating two temporary versions of its stock for every major board decision: i) one pricing the company if the deal happens, and; ii) one if it does not The market that sustains the higher valuation determines what the company does... Founders remain the C-suite, the market acts as the board, the treasury contract controls the money and the legal structure binds the development team to the outcome This closes one of crypto’s largest structural gaps: linking tokenholder capital to enforceable control over how it’s used The Clarity Act may have stalled yesterday, but pay attention to onchain mechanisms that enhance the ownership rights of tokenized businesses... it'll become increasingly important
