Someone in my own family got 100 shares on Facebook and is now talking about quitting the job she got a degree for to become a social media influencer for a seasonal paddling business in hurricane country. I love confidence. But 100 shares is not a retirement plan. It’s not health insurance. It’s not steady income. It’s one good gust of wind on an app that can bury you tomorrow. Build the business, absolutely. But don’t throw away a degree, a paycheck, and stability because Facebook gave you dopamine and a standing ovation for 12 hours.
