In the third week of reporting in September, there were fewer than 198,000 initial unemployment claims filed nationally on a seasonally adjusted basis. At 1.8 million claims, seasonally adjusted continued unemployment has remained virtually unchanged from a month earlier. Initial unemployment claim levels remain near historic lows.
