The message in question was likely delivered yesterday, when Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi visited Beijing to meet Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. While the Iranian release on the matter was rather ambiguous, stating that Chinese President Xi Jinping’s April, 2026 ‘4 points for peace’ were stressed, it’s highly likely that they also discussed any proposition from Saudi Arabia and the wider conflict, as last week, China expressed a willingness to act as a neutral party in peace efforts in the region, following escalation in Yemen.
However, in the past China has expressed its willingness to act as a mediator, going as far as to send an envoy to the region earlier in the war. It should be noted that such efforts came to nil, as China has historically held the escalating conflict at arm’s length since the inception of escalation with the Hamas attack on Israel.
