Syria is facing a growing security question that can no longer be ignored. A massive series of explosions tore through an army ammunition depot near Al-Eis, south of Aleppo, injuring four civilians and forcing nearby families to evacuate. What makes this more significant is the pattern: this is the fourth such incident at a Syrian military or ammunition site in September alone, while Reuters has counted at least 16 similar explosions since December 2024. Poor storage and deteriorated munitions have been cited in previous cases, but the cause of the Al-Eis blast remains officially unexplained. At this point, the bigger question is not simply what exploded, but why so many military storage sites are continuing to suffer major explosions across Syria.
