Allen was commissioned by Sheriff Sam Gay and served with courage and integrity. After apprehending a horse theft suspect, Allen was later ambushed and killed in Pahoon, Arizona. He was 61 years old. Nearly a century later, his service and sacrifice are not forgotten.
