Edge Aerospace CEO @imperator_jarek reveals first-generation space data centers will mostly be used to process on orbit data instead of hosting AI training: "When we're talking about first generation of space data centers, which are like a few kilowatts, maybe up to one megawatt, satellites flying together and communicating." "For near-term applications, it's not access to unlimited solar power that's the advantage, but actually location. The fact that you're above of everything and having the space data center that has access to multiple sources of data, or can communicate with other things in space, is the greatest advantage." "When we are talking about first generation of space data centers, they will mostly be used for space applications, to process the data coming from other satellites, from space domain awareness, from remote sensing." "They will be used to avoid dumping the data you are collecting to the ground with all the consequences. Instead, having a constellation of satellites that could get the raw data from other constellations and provide processing for them at a certain service level, and then the results either sent back to their satellites or sent back to the ground." "So we are coming from collecting gigabits of raw data towards a few bits in certain cases."
