We cannot deny the fact that people find community and meaning in Antisemitism. We saw that with the college encampments in 2024, and the rallies on the streets, and in the intense meaning lonely young people find in the free Palestine movement. The same was true in Germany in the 1930s. The many youth movements, the rallies, the parades, the uniforms, all gave broken people a sense of meaning and belonging. Joining hate movements for social reasons is compelling, but that also blinds the people joining to the consequences and where it is all leading. I am sure it felt great to be part of the various German youth movements in the 1930s, but the people who joined probably didn't think they would be captured frozen and starving outside Stalingrad on the Eastern Front just a few years later. The people leading these hate movements may provide social value to those who are joining, but they certainly do not have the long-term well-being of their recruits in mind. To all the responsible adults out there: no matter what your positions are on Middle East issues might be, the free Palestine movement is radicalizing those who you love into consequences you simply cannot foresee right now. A movement of hate will never build a better future for someone you love. As we have seen in too many cases, havoc, chaos, and destruction often follow joining such movements of hate.
