Quake Champions is done being free-to-play.
id Software and Bethesda flipped the arena shooter to a $9.99 Steam-only game with update 1.31. The Microsoft Store version is gone. If you already had Champions before September 23, you keep it. New players pay ten bucks and get the whole pile: every Champion unlocked, most cosmetics included, and eight years of seasonal stuff bundled in.
The live-service layer is stripped out. Battle passes, the shop, loot boxes, premium currency, login rewards, and the rest of the microtransaction clutter are gone. Anyone who bought Platinum in the last 60 days is getting a refund. id also says no more content updates are planned.
There are a few quality-of-life extras in the same patch, including a callvote system and some network fixes. After that, this is the game.
A messy F2P experiment ends the old-fashioned way: one cheap buy, no shop, and a pretty clear “this is the final form” note.
