CROPS is fundamentally a set of ideals that by design cannot die, but requires moral discernment to be introduced.
The ENS DAO situation should galvanize people to take more seriously the needs for immutable mechanisms that are impossible to capture. A DAO is not a reliable steward for an upgrade mechanism in the same way that the most well-meaning government in the world might turn unenlightened. It is sad that it's necessary to have this happen at all though.
It's like all of the shitty L2s shutting down and taking user funds with them because they never prioritized having an exit mechanism of any kind, or the Arbitrum security council interventionism, or TEEs failing. Some people will always discount the hard work done to build things properly until they see the shortcuts fail.
Nothing stops you from simply rejecting any notion of "progressive decentralization" and choosing to have higher standards. It is right and just to do so.
