🤔Communication about longevity on social media is shaped by much more than the science itself.
Economic interests account for a large share of it, since many of the most visible voices sell supplements, testing, or clinic services, or are paid through sponsorships and affiliate links to promote them.
Psychology also plays a part. Fear of aging and the wish for some control over it make audiences receptive to confident claims, and the platforms tend to reward confidence more readily than caution.
There is also the problem of getting information from research to the public intact. Much of the underlying work is paywalled, preliminary, or done in animals, and the people summarizing it often lack the training or the incentive to mention those limits. Ideology and aspiration add a further layer.
Some communities treat dramatic life extension as close at hand, others regard any intervention with suspicion, and a good deal of longevity content works by offering viewers an image of the healthier, more disciplined person they hope to become.
For these reasons, readers and investors are well served by bringing a high level of scrutiny to this field, and that applies to the content here as well. This page gathers what is circulating about longevity so it can be seen in one place, and sharing a post does not mean I endorse the views in it. I’d encourage keeping that scrutiny up even when a claim comes from a source you have trusted before.
Wishing you good health and many good years to enjoy it. Take good care of yourself, and of the people who make those years worth having. Here's to long, healthy lives and plenty of time to spend them with the ones we love. 💛👨⚕️
