Princess Grace of Monaco shares a playful moment with President John F. Kennedy during a visit to the White House in 1961. Princess Grace of Monaco visited the White House on May 24, 1961, alongside her husband, Prince Rainier III, for a luncheon hosted by President John F. Kennedy and First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy. The gathering brought together politics, royalty, Hollywood, and fashion in one of the defining social events of the early 1960s. Before becoming Princess Grace, she was Grace Kelly, one of Hollywood’s biggest stars. She appeared in classics such as Rear Window, Dial M for Murder, and To Catch a Thief before retiring from acting following her marriage to Prince Rainier in 1956. By 1961, she had taken on a new role as Monaco’s princess and an internationally recognized royal. The occasion attracted even more attention because Grace Kelly and Jacqueline Kennedy were among the most admired women of their generation. Both were celebrated for their elegance, style, and public image, making their appearance together a major cultural moment. According to the JFK Library, the event was a White House luncheon held at 1:00 p.m. on May 24, 1961, in honor of Prince Rainier III and Princess Grace of Monaco.
