Korean media obtained statements from Korean prosecutors and reported that CXMT's former CEO threatened former Samsung Electronics employees who had joined the company. According to the report, he told them to bring over the PRP and equipment information for Samsung's 18nm DRAM, and said he would report them to the Korean government if they did not.
He also reportedly warned them, "I have connections who can verify whether it's really Samsung's information, so don't even think about getting away with a lie."
There was also testimony that strong pressure from the Chinese government was behind the former CEO's push on the Korean team. Mr. Jeon spent 28 years at Samsung Electronics before moving to CXMT. He testified in court on the 9th: "At the time, when we were talking with the Chinese government, there was talk that if we couldn't do 18nm, they wouldn't give (CXMT) the investment funding." Prosecutors asked, "Was this what the Chinese government wanted from the start?" Jeon replied, "Yes. The idea was that (the Chinese government) would invest only if we did 18nm, and I came to realize that (CXMT) never had any intention of developing it on its own from the beginning." Jeon also testified that the CEO's pressure came while the company was preparing for a meeting to ask the Chinese government for investment funding.
