Are you trying to hold a .001" profile? You need to manage tool deflection.
A spring pass runs the same toolpath a second time,ideally cutting nothing, but you can still hear how much material was left from deflection on the first pass. That same deflection will also put a taper on the part.
If you’re using a face mill, run an indicator across the surface after the cut and you’ll usually find it isn’t flat; .003" of variation is common. Drop the face mill another .001", it skims the peaks and leaves the valleys, and you can walk the part into a flat surface that way.
