It appears to be a cold-joint issue. The shield can easily come loose under vibration - for example, when the terminal is mounted on a car. Once detached, the shield can cause short circuits on the Mini PCB, potentially destroying the voltage regulators. There are many known cases of this issue. cc @michaelnicollsx
