The labs were already having difficulty landing enterprise customers because of data risk, and had to resort to embedding employees and local deployments with some headliners, so the Fable retention choice was a particularly weird one (was it internally or externally-motivated?)

Consensus on this seems to be ZDR which tracks to my own experience as well. If that really turns out to be the case, it's an incredibly strong and clear message to the labs on the impact of data retention policies.
