Jensen Huang says the AI panic is a lie. It didn’t start with the public. It started with the people who built it. Huang: “AI is not a biological being. It is not alien. It is not conscious. It is computer software.” Builders describe their own software like they accidentally summoned something alive. Then wonder why the public is terrified. You created the monster. Not in code. In language. Huang: “We say things like, ‘We don’t understand it at all.’ It is not true.” This is the line that should unsettle you. Not because AI is dangerous. Because the people who understand it best are telling the world they don’t. When architects disown their own creation, governments don’t hear humility. They hear a confession. And they respond accordingly. Huang: “To say things that are quite extreme, quite catastrophic, that there’s no evidence of it happening, could be more damaging than people think.” Manufacturing catastrophe without evidence is not responsibility. It is the fastest way to hand the most consequential technology in human history to the people least equipped to govern it. Huang: “Warning is good. Scaring is less good. Because this technology is too important to us.” Warning maps the danger. Scaring erases the map. One earns trust. The other builds a cage around the future. Huang: “There was a time when nobody listened to us. But now our words do matter.” Your words now move policy. Shape legislation. Decide whether governments see you as an architect or a liability. The more the builders warn about losing control, the more they guarantee they will lose control. Just not to the machine. To the state. That is the actual existential risk.
