A woman slipped a hotel key into my hand at a crowded party.
I looked at her, confused.
She smiled and whispered, “Room 312. Midnight.”
Naturally, my brain assumed romance.
At midnight, I went upstairs.
The room was empty.
Except for a phone sitting on the bed.
Then it rang.
I answered.
A man’s voice said:
“If you’re holding that phone, she’s already chosen you.”
Before I could ask what that meant…
The bathroom door opened.
At that point, romance officially left the group chat.
