this isn’t even wrong like, yes, to be clear, the AI safety guys are coordinating and funding the topic. but “the start of an operation”?? man, they’ve been shouting about this for decades before everyone else was even thinking about AI but you can’t just will a post into this degree of virality. they’ve tried, repeatedly, to spread their message! they’ve done protests, they’ve written books, they’ve gone on the whole podcast circuit, employees have quit before, all the lab heads say they’re worried about serious safety risks. none of that went viral like this, and a whole lot of it was shared by all the same people bc that’s what happens when a group is interested in a topic it’s not gaining steam because they suddenly started coordinating. it’s gaining steam because everyone else is getting scared as well. and it’s not the start of a campaign to get the Democrats to pass legislation, it’s step 31262 in a campaign to get anyone holding any lever of power to do anything they can get them to do
