well it's been a year and I'm sad to report that my cholesterol is basically unchanged, slightly worse but very much within typical variation. I still use the filters and will continue because they definitely do improve espresso quality and the east of keeping the machine clean.

The reason I got a coronary artery calcium scan. It's because of high LDL and ApoB. My numbers are only mildly elevated and I'm not convinced that those markers are actually atherogenic, but I am leaning on the minority there as far as researchers. Also, interesting to me is the possibility that those numbers are mostly just elevated because of my habit of drinking large quantities of espresso without paper filters, which contains cafestrol. I found 58 mm paper portafilter inserts and will report back in a year.
