He joined xAI from Tesla's Autopilot team, where he oversaw data center buildout for Full Self-Driving. The departures accelerated after SpaceX acquired xAI in February, ahead of a planned IPO. Musk has said xAI was not built right and has reorganized the company multiple times, shedding dozens of employees in the process.
