7/8 — AND THE PART THAT PREVENTS THE FRACTURE ITSELF
Train balance every single day. Single-leg stands, progressive balance work.
Falls cause fractures. You can have excellent bone density and still shatter a hip if you go down hard. Balance training is the most underrated intervention in this entire conversation and it costs nothing.
Move all day. Walking, stairs, heel drops. Prolonged sitting actively signals bone to resorb.
Sleep 7-8 hours. Bone remodeling happens during rest.
Don't smoke. Keep alcohol moderate. Smoking accelerates loss; alcohol impairs repair and raises fall risk.
Get a DEXA earlier than 65 if you have risk factors: early menopause, family history, prior fracture, steroid use, low body weight, eating disorder history, or a malabsorption condition.
