So WSJ says FTX had $16b in customer assets, and they gave $10b to Alameda who blew it all... Unbelievable
I remember hearing from multiple ppl (who had used them) that Alameda's execution desk wouldn't even randomize the order sizes/frequency, just lobbing equally sized clips at regular intervals. No attempt at hiding flow/matching liquidity. The ironic part was that there wasn't much to indicate people were detecting them even despite the fact that their execution was worse than a standard VWAP algo. Looking back, this was an early warning sign, but all I could think was, "hahaha I'm going to front-run these losers"

This thread is the most believable one, saying that Alameda&FTX goes insolvent due to self-market-making with bad strategy.
1/ Very rough and speculative sketch of what I increasingly think happened at FTX as more info comes out… The central question is where did the money go? Yes malfeasance and fraud is necessary, but at one point in the cycle cash actually has to go out the door
