Aryabhata did not invent the zero symbol or fully develop zero as a number. His major contribution was using place value in the decimal system, where an empty position could represent “nothing” (for example, distinguishing 10 from 1). He used the word “kha” for an empty place. Later Indian mathematicians, especially Brahmagupta in the 7th century, developed zero as a number and described rules for calculating with it.

Regarding claims by Ms. Arya Singh (App No. 260410434102) about her NEET (UG) 2026 OMR answer sheet: NTA has verified the record. The genuine OMR of the candidate is with NTA. It was also emailed to her at the registered e-mail address during the OMR Response Key challenge window. The image being circulated is a digitally altered version of that same sheet. The recorded time of signature of one of the invigilators has been changed from 3:45 PM on the genuine sheet to 2:45 PM on the altered image. There are several other markings of digital alteration on the forged OMR sheet. The score of 167 marks is verified and stands as declared.
