Control: Resonant director Mikael Kasurinen explained why the game deliberately avoids the usual yellow paint markers used to show players where they can climb, enter or interact. He says it was a conscious decision because Remedy wants players to actually figure things out themselves instead of constantly being told where to go. “It’s so important that the players feel like they’re the ones figuring it out.” Instead of yellow paint, Resonant uses things like lighting, environmental details and objects to guide players. Kasurinen admits this approach can make the game feel “impenetrable” at first and could alienate some players, but he believes that uncertainty is part of the experience. “There’s nothing fucking better than it feels like I found my way to do it.”
