The founder and owner of a health care software company was convicted for his role in a $1 billion Medicare fraud scheme that generated false doctors' orders and prescriptions to defraud Medicare and other federal programs. According to court documents, Brett Blackman and his co-conspirators targeted hundreds of thousands of Medicare beneficiaries to get them to accept medically unnecessary orthotic braces and prescriptions for other items.
