You need to know when blocks stop being produced. You need to catch performance issues before they become downtime. You need to understand what's happening across the network while your validator is running. None of this is particularly exciting. But without it, reliable infrastructure becomes difficult. That's why I find Canopy's approach interesting. Instead of making every validator operator assemble their own monitoring stack before they even participate, the plan is to have monitoring built into the mainnet experience from the beginning. The difference might sound small. It isn't. Infrastructure becomes much more powerful when the boring parts are already handled. Think about cloud computing.
