🌲 Investing in Canopy Notes No.036
I've noticed a pattern throughout the history of technology.
Whenever the cost of building falls, the number of experiments explodes.
The web became accessible.
Millions of websites appeared.
Smartphones became easier to develop for.
Millions of apps followed.
Now AI is lowering the cost of writing software.
Naturally, we'll see another wave of experimentation.
But experimentation alone isn't enough.
Ideas need somewhere to live.
Somewhere they can evolve beyond a prototype.
That's why infrastructure matters more than ever.
Not because it replaces creativity.
Because it multiplies it.
Recently, I watched builders create everything from prediction markets to on-chain fact-checking systems like Veritas during Canopy community events.
What stood out wasn't that these products were technically impressive.
It was how quickly they moved from concept to something people could actually interact with.
That speed changes incentives.
When building becomes inexpensive, people stop waiting for the perfect idea.
They start testing hundreds of good ones.
Most won't succeed.
That's perfectly fine.
Innovation has never been about finding one perfect experiment.
It's about making experimentation cheap enough that great ideas eventually emerge.
Perhaps that's the real value of infrastructure like Canopy Network.
Not that it guarantees success.
But that it makes trying again remarkably easy.
And in technology, the ecosystems that enable the most experiments often end up producing the most breakthroughs.
