Saudi Arabia's East-West oil pipeline has now become a critical route for Asian oil supply: The East-West pipeline transports Saudi crude 746 miles from the country's eastern oil fields to the Red Sea port of Yanbu, providing an export route that bypasses the Strait of Hormuz. In May, China was the largest buyer of crude shipped through Yanbu, importing ~774,000 barrels per day. This was followed by South Korea at ~645,000 barrels per day, Japan at ~452,000 barrels per day, and India at ~387,000 barrels per day. Together, these 4 countries imported ~2.26 million barrels per day, or over half of all exports through Yanbu. In total, more than 5 million barrels per day of Saudi crude now move through Yanbu, up from ~1-2 million barrels per day in February. The East-West pipeline has become a key oil export route to Asia.

SAUDI ARABIA SPENT 5 MONTHS BUILDING AN ESCAPE ROUTE FROM IRAN. THE HOUTHIS JUST CLOSED IT. When Iran shut the Strait of Hormuz, Saudi Arabia didn't panic. It rerouted oil 1,200 kilometers overland through the East-West Pipeline to the Red Sea port of Yanbu, sacrificing natural-gas-liquids revenue to push capacity from 5 million to 7 million barrels a day. It’s actually a genuine engineering and economic achievement, built in months, designed to make the kingdom's oil exports untouchable by Iran. This week, the Houthis put a spanner in the works. THE SQUEEZE On July 20, Yemen's Houthi movement declared a full naval blockade of Saudi Arabia and struck two Saudi tankers in the Red Sea. By Friday, they hit the source directly: missiles and drones on Aramco's Jizan refinery, and a simultaneous strike on the Yanbu export terminal, the exact port the kingdom built its Hormuz workaround around. NASA's satellite fire-detection system confirmed multiple thermal anomalies at Jizan at 1:17am UTC. Brent crude broke back above $100 a barrel within hours. Here's the part that makes this more than another rocket over the Red Sea: every barrel Yanbu loads still has to exit through the Bab al-Mandeb strait to reach open water. Iran controls the door on one side of the peninsula. The Houthis, backed by Iran, now threaten the only other one. WHO SAYS WHAT Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree framed it as retaliation, not initiation, accusing Saudi of "escalation" after Saudi strikes on Hodeidah, and vowing to answer "escalation with escalation." Yemen's government says the Houthis are using the strait "to serve Iran's regional agenda and strengthen Tehran's negotiating position" The Houthis have a real grievance, a blockade Riyadh has enforced on Yemen for over a decade, and Iran has a real interest in every additional lever it can pull on Saudi Arabia while its own war with Washington grinds on. FLIP THE SEATS Picture the Saudi energy ministry official who spent five months and real money solving the Hormuz problem, converting NGL infrastructure, pushing throughput past design limits, briefing the world that the kingdom had insulated itself from Iranian leverage. Now picture that same person watching satellite footage of Yanbu-bound crude burning at the refinery gate, in a port they specifically chose because it wasn't supposed to be anyone's chokepoint. The lesson isn't that the pipeline was badly planned. It's that in a region with this many armed, motivated actors, there is no single fix. THE BIGGER PATTERN This isn't the tidy version of multipolarity, a single rising bloc calmly displacing a single declining hegemon. It's messier than that, and more honest: when no one power can fully guarantee the safety of the world's oil, the number of actors who can threaten it doesn't shrink to two. It grows. Iran doesn't need to personally close both routes. It just needs an ally willing to close the second one for its own reasons, at the moment that reinforces Iran's position most. The Unipolar Order is discovering it never had as many fronts covered as it thought. Saudi Arabia will likely find a third route eventually. The question worth sitting with is how long the kingdom, the world and the price of gas everywhere can survive the search.

Today marks exactly one month since GLM-5.2 launched, yet it already feels like a different world. “Closed” and “open” models no longer represent a capability gap or an East–West divide; the distinction now simply comes down to whether a model is open.

Primitive Weekly POV snapshot This week, our team dives deep into how AI agents are replacing analysts, our thesis behind backing @opinionlabsxyz to capture the East-West split in prediction markets, the ruthless distribution playbook in consumer AI, and why the future of payments is on-chain. Here is the breakdown from the PV team 👇 1/ 😵The End of the Analyst Era @DoveyWan built a team of investment analyst agents using @openclaw . For just $200/month, these agents handle pitch prep, surface critical signals, and run complex investment simulations. >The old model: High economic growth = high employment. >The new reality: We are entering an era of ultra-high growth and ultra-high unemployment. Unless human analysts have proprietary insight, taste, or access, agentic cross-pollination will replace them entirely. 2/👀 Prediction Markets 2.0: The Great Divergence @YettaSing outlines our full investment thesis on @opinionlabsxyz "seed-stage" underdog from the East that quietly hit $1.5B in weekly volume. >The Paradox: Assets can converge globally, but opinions are local. The West concentrates on sports and politics, while the East thrives on pop culture and local narratives. >The East-West Split: Opinion Labs captures dispersed attention. For the 2026 South Korean local election, Opinion Labs did $52M in volume compared to Polymarket’s $482K. >The AI Scaling Layer: To handle infinite local opinions without fragmenting liquidity, Opinion Labs uses multi-agent AI to structure markets and resolve unstructured information at scale. Prediction markets have entered 2.0. The West optimizes for financialization and hedging uncertainty at scale. The East turns collective judgment into a living, internet-native participatory system. more here>> 3/💻 The Consumer AI War: Distribution > Compute @adaYen72 breaks down ByteDance's Doubao and its massive success, proving that the future of consumer AI is about ruthless distribution, not just raw compute. > The Doubao Playbook: Entering the market late, Doubao bypassed coding benchmarks to focus on engineering viral entertainment. By blasting relatable everyday consumer features through the Douyin algorithm, it hit a staggering 70M+ DAU, leapfrogging early movers. > The Global Lesson: We see the exact same playbook in the West, with Google baking Gemini into billions of Android phones to close the gap on ChatGPT. Doubao's textbook GTM shows that the crown in consumer AI goes to the players who can turn raw tech into everyday products through distribution monopolies and manufactured virality. 4/ 🤖 Agentic Payments: The On-chain Inevitability @0xtony0x highlights AI as an evolutionary force that prioritizes the most efficient platforms to execute human intent. >The Delegated Economy: AI is already executing economic activities, placing 200M orders through Qwen during the Chinese New Year. >The Path of Least Friction: Money follows the second law of thermodynamics, flowing to the road of lowest cost. Because AI demands extreme efficiency, the future of agentic payments will inevitably happen on-chain. That’s the snapshot for this week. Stay tuned. Stay primitive.🛡️
